How this works, and what happens after you send it▾
This is a proper guide price for a UK café or coffee business, not a generic small business calculator and not a percentage of your turnover. The nine types of business we handle, specialty coffee shops, traditional cafés, tea rooms, sandwich shops, deli and farm shop cafés, bakery cafés, dessert parlours, small bistros and hybrid concepts, are all priced differently, because each attracts a different kind of buyer, runs on different margins and takes a different length of time to pay back. Price a specialty espresso bar with £140,000 of kit on its weekly takings and you sell it short. Price a busy sandwich shop on profit alone and you will ask for more than anyone will pay. The calculator changes both the questions and the multiple based on the type of business you pick, so the figure at the end is close to what a real buyer would offer.
For most businesses we work from a multiple of adjusted profit, sometimes called SDE. That means your net profit with your own wages, personal costs run through the books and any one-off expenses added back in, so the figure shows what the business genuinely earns whoever owns it. Buyers, accountants and brokers all negotiate on that number, because turnover on its own tells you nothing about whether a café makes money. For smaller high-street cafés and dessert parlours, where weekly takings are the clearest measure, we use a multiple of takings instead. Tea rooms and freeholds add the value of the property itself. Where you are matters too: London and the Home Counties usually sit above the national average, while Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland tend to sit slightly below.
When you send it, we email you the figure and a broker looks at the numbers behind it. If your business looks genuinely saleable, we will offer you a free, private conversation about it. There is no listing, no advert and no contact with your staff, suppliers or landlord. We never sell or publish your details, and you can ask us to delete them at any time at contact@buymycafe.co.uk.
